The story worth telling
Ask one open question and let the answer wander a little. A familiar gesture or pause may become the most precious part. Use family objects or photographs only where they support the story being told.
Three things to capture
- A comfortable conversation setup
- A meaningful object or approved photograph
- A reaction from the person listening
Let the camera run a little before and after each action. Those extra seconds give you room to find a better cut.
Give the edit a shape
Begin with the person’s own words
Show the detail they are remembering
End on a complete thought
Before you share it
Confirm that the speaker wants the memory recorded and shared. Keep an untouched copy of the original recording.
